Thank you! - Day 63

We have successfully made it to 9 weeks!  Why does this matter?  9 weeks was the longest time I had seen written anywhere to be worried about Fading Kitten Syndrome (FKS).  While admittedly, I haven't been worried about sudden crashes for a few weeks, this still is an exciting milestone for us.  The little kitten who I refused to name when we first found him has grown into a tiny cat.  Both cats are healthy (though now I'm sick, hah!), and they are getting along well.  I didn't expect to be at this point 9 weeks ago but am so thankful that we've made it here now.

This post will be short, but I'll include the required photos and videos from today at the end.  I suggest you look through the Photos By Day to go through a few choice photos that shows Phoenix changing over the days.  It's up to date and has a photo for each of the 63 days.

For anyone that has been following along, thank you!  This blog has been a fun adventure for me, and it's exciting that I've made it to the "end" of what I set out to do.  I hope Phoenix (and Asher) have been able to bring a few extra smiles into your life.  Thank you all and goodbye!

Photos and Videos

He enjoys being scratched under his chin.  Not while he's energetic - then he tries to eat your fingers.

Loves being scratched under the chin.

Fighting on the tower, continued.

Post-fight stare down

Blurry, but cute.  Look at how big he is!

He's huge!

This one cracks me up.  I put the one it reminded me of from Phoenix's very early days (when my sister called him an alien).  I'm glad he's much cuter these days 😂

Sleeping in my lap

Knocked out

Asher hangs on in this spot often to sit in the sun and stare out the window.  Seems like Phoenix has taken an interest in doing the same.

Wrestling!  Phoenix ran away at the end, but don't worry, he didn't go far.  The two of them were sitting near each other right after this video.

He spent about a good minute considering how he would get off the cat tower.  The next video shows you what he ended up deciding to do.

😂

Asher seems to have bumped his head at the beginning of this wrestling match.

Don't worry, Asher came back with full force shortly after.

Good night, all!  Thanks again for joining us!

  1. I'm really going to miss your blog. I loved watching Phoenix grow. The pictures and videos were adorable and I really enjoyed seeing the cuteness. The one where you put the bat wings on him was priceless. You did such a wonderful thing in what has been such a crazy world lately.

Growing Up - Day 17

17 days, 7.65oz, 6 feedings, 2 butt baths, 1 dose Ponazuril, 0 vet visits.  A nice count down to summarize my day.  Phoenix has been doing well.  He continues to have blood come out after going to the bathroom, poor guy.  You can tell he's in pain when it's happening.  Let's hope that some more time with the medication will help improve this.  His poop today already seemed better than before (less accidents), so that's hopefully a good sign. Approaching a Milestone I'm always excited when Phoenix hits some kind of milestone.  It's a way to make me feel more comfortable about his state.  I always worry that maybe something is wrong (especially internally), so seeing this normal progress really helps. I've referenced the kitten lady before - here's a nice page from her site about determining age (but also kind of demonstrates some milestones).  Check it out; http://www.kittenlady.org/age, but I've also included a picture from her site belo...

Upgrades - Day 20

Day 20 and Phoenix is still going strong.  He's been gaining weight like a monster (hit 250g today), and I think the poop storm is starting to slow down.  Eyes are wide open, energy levels are high, and fluffy factor is continually increasing. Upgrades Phoenix got a home upgrade today.  I had purchased a collapsible pen that arrived a few days ago.  This morning, the little guy was complaining even after eating a bunch of food.  So I decided to go ahead and upgrade from a container to this new pen. I regret not getting one size bigger.  I'll need to think about a litter box soon, and it would have fit a lot bigger if I upped the size.  We'll see what happens.  I also haven't figured out what I'll do at night.  He usually sleeps next to me, but maybe it's time to leave him in one spot and keep him out of the bedroom?  I just worry I won't be able to hear him crying if something goes wrong. All in all, I'm generally happy with this new pen...

Kitten Concerns - Days 45 and 46

Phoenix is as energetic as ever.  He runs and jumps and falls.  He eventually sleeps.  Then wakes up to go through it all again.  Overall he's doing alright, but our poop problems have returned. Kitten Concerns Phoenix has been able to poop on his own for a while now.  The poops have largely been formed, so things have been on the upside.  Unfortunately yesterday afternoon, he had a pretty loose stool.  And then shortly after, it was pretty much only liquid coming out for the poor guy. I gave him his dewormer yesterday.  There was a lot more to feed him, but I got most of it in him.  I got some of it on my pants... but the majority of it successfully went into his mouth.  He did fight it for the most part, but we got it down!  It was the next poop after that that came out as liquid. We've also recently introduced some moistened dry food for him.  So this new food could explain the change in his poop.  I'll continue to moni...
