8 weeks coming up tomorrow! That also means I'm coming to the end of my adventure into blogging. 9 weeks will be my last blog post here. I'm glad we've made it this far, since I wasn't sure we'd be hear when I started this about 7 weeks ago. I also wasn't sure whether or not our two cats would get along, but there's been progress there, too!
General Health
Overall, Phoenix's poop has been fantastic. We haven't tried reintroducing dry food yet, but I will likely try to do so in the next day or two to see if that reintroduces the problem. The fleas are still a problem; there was one on his face today 😱. To give him the flea medication, he needs to be at least 8 weeks and at least 1.8 pounds. He's only recently hit 1.8 pounds and will be 8 weeks tomorrow, so I'll give him the medication sometime this week after checking in with the vet.
We have a vet appointment tomorrow to handle his first set of vaccinations. He might still be too small, but the vet will assess tomorrow.
Though truthfully, I'm going to call tomorrow morning and see if they can swap Asher's appointment for Phoenix's. Asher is going in on Wednesday evening to check out a small lump (nickel-sized) on his belly. I had noticed it a couple of weeks ago, and it's still there, though doesn't seem to be changing in size. I figured we could get it checked out just in case.
But then yesterday, I heard Asher crying while in his litterbox. By the time I walked over, he was leaving the room. Shortly after, he considered walking into one of Phoenix's litterboxes. Nguyen has been working on changing Asher's litter to a new brand by slowly mixing in the newer litter with the old. So I thought maybe that was the problem. So I poured out another litterbox of just the old litter. Shortly after he went into it, and I was secretly watching outside the door. He tried to go, but then walked out. It seems like only a tiny bit of urine came out. My best guess is that he's having trouble pooping (cuz why not, poop problems has been the theme of my life for 2 months now).
Seriously though, I'm pretty worried. Cats are known for not showing signs of illness. I'm pretty worried about this, so I may try to switch the two appointments to get Asher in sooner. In the meantime, I've added some prune to his diet and have been adding extra water to his food just in case that will help. I've also tried checking and massaging his belly.
Bonding
All in all, I think the two are getting along really well now. They sleep together on the couch very frequently, and they play together. I'm excited for Phoenix to get a bit bigger to be able to engage even more in play with Asher. It's still pretty one sided for now when they wrestle, but I don't think it will take long to make it a fair fight.
It also helps me feel a bit better about Asher potentially being sick. While I'm paranoid that he's been sleeping more, he's also been significantly more active than I've ever seen him. When we've played with him in the past, he would often times become disinterested in 2-3 minutes and leave. But he now plays with Phoenix at least 2-3 times a day for around 10-15 minutes at a time. So it doesn't seem like either of them are lacking for energy.
Asher also groomed Phoenix for quite some time today. Phoenix sleeps for most of it, and Asher grooms away. It warms my heart.
I started writing this post while both of these guys were playing. And I'm ending it with both of them falling asleep on the couch. Phoenix was playing around on the couch until Asher hopped up here and decided he wanted to sleep. Quite impressive - Phoenix immediately came over and lied down where he is in the photo and closed his eyes, too. It's a shame I'll be moving Phoenix to his separate room shortly, but I'll let them sleep for now while I wrap up my evening.
Photos and Videos
I'm just going to drop some photos and videos today to close out.
His nose is changing! I know wonder again whether or not his nose is just dirty... or...?
He received a new toy from a friend today! He loves it!
He does this often when he's surprised, I see it most frequently when either Nguyen or I walk by or come down the hallway and he wasn't expecting us. I got him to do it on the video because I moved my hand with the toy in it once he started walkig over.
Sleeping together!
Grooming! I love Phoenix's "bed head" in this one.
Shortly after waking up - playing in my lap
More playing in my lap
This is quite possibly the only battle Phoenix has won to date.
The beginning of this video is worth the watch. Phoenix tends to hope over the swivel chair legs often. He bounces over them to play all the time. So I was trying to catch a video of it. So I asked him to "hop" expecting him to play around the chair legs as he usually does. I got a different variation instead, which is highly adorable and made me laugh.
A video of the two wrestling!
