Phoenix had a vet appointment today and he's made it to 2 pounds! I can still carry him with one hand, but I know that's going to change. Hard to believe he used to fit in the palm of my hand.
Not much else to say. I'll be reintroducing some dry food tomorrow evening. If the diarrhea comes back then we will likely try a new kind of dry food to see if that helps. I wanted to do it overnight tonight, but since he also just had a vaccination, I'd prefer to wait.
We did go ahead and swap Asher's and Phoenix's vet appointments. I took Asher in on Monday and Phoenix went in today. Asher as a UTI, which was likely brought on by stress. But overall, he seems to be doing well, and we're increasing some of his wet food to help with hydration.
As for Phoenix, he went in to get his first vaccination today! Yay for getting stabbed for the first time, with many more adventures to come. The vet also told us to go ahead and give him the flea medication which would cover worms and ear mites. On the bright side, he doesn't think he has ear mites - just dirty ears 😂.
Phoenix is also done with the course of medicine he had for diarrhea, but overall since last week. we've had nice poops. There was one so nice today that he decided to step in it and spread it around a bit.
With COVID, we get to stay in the car the whole time while we wait for him to be brought in. I let Phoenix out to explore the car about (shhhh, don't tell Nguyen). He was pretty quiet, but eventually wanted to explore on the dashboard. Someone who was sitting on the bench outside snapped a photo of him while he was up there.
I also finally added him to our pet insurance. It also turns out our vet has a "kitten" package. So I bought that, too. It'll help cover the upcoming vaccinations, deworming, appointments, etc. It also comes with nail trimming! So why do I mention this? Phoenix tried to jump on the couch to sit next to Nguyen, and he just fell back down 😂. I'll try to get a video of this if I can, though I felt bad and ended up helping him up when he came by.
Outside of the vet news, there isn't much excitement going on. Since Phoenix and Asher have been playing well together, we've been able to generally let Phoenix roam around the house and do his own thing. Though he usually finds his way to either Nguyen or me at some point.
Though earlier today, I was in a meeting when I realized I had no idea where Phoenix went. I had shut the room door, so there weren't too many options. But when I looked in his shark, he wasn't in there! Shortly after, I realized where he would have to be... and there he was!
He had fallen asleep on top of our adjustable weights. I had put a cow pillow on top of them earlier while making room to workout. Seems he decided on top of the weights but under the chair I keep for Asher was a prime nap spot.
By letting Phoenix run around the house most of the time, it helps reduce how much he likes to come and "help" me work. But it doesn't prevent it entirely. This still happens from time to time:
Here's another interesting quirk that I don't think I've ever shared. But Phoenix will often paw the floor after he eats. It's usually more than the one time he did here, but I find it cute! I read a bit about it and it seems like it is some kind of innate instinct that might be related to hiding food or something similar! Fascinating!
Photos and Videos
He enjoys boxes :) Here he is in the box that just came with his wet food.
Again with the box.
Sleep time!
In the car, just looking around figuring out where he is.
Caught him with his tongue sticking out!
Crazy play time. He sometimes is even more energetic than this. But he sometimes goes wild while jumping on and off those carpets.
Feather time playing.
Nguyen had stepped outside briefly, so Phoenix woke up. But he started falling asleep while sitting there. But then Nguyen came back in, so you can see Phoenix lean over to watch what was going on.
Side by Sides
I'm still surprised by how much he's changed. Here's a couple of side by side photos just as a reminder of how far we've come!
Eating then versus eating now.
Scratching under the chin then and now
