One Day at a Time - Day 29

One more day down!  I'll be transitioning to generally writing every other day moving forward, so if you don't hear from me tomorrow, don't panic!  Using a slightly blurry cover photo, but it's my favorite from today nonetheless.

Another day has gone by and Phoenix is doing well.  He's been eating very well with the new nipples (maybe a bit too fast?), and has been growing.  He's still not litter trained, but he is able to poop on his own once you get him started.  In fact, I got you a picture and a video of this happening!  No, I'm not joking.  Don't worry, no poop will be shown.  Video below, picture to follow soon after.

It's actually very helpful that he's picked this up.  It really helps with cleanup and makes it much easier.  But... this particular poop unfortunately didn't highlight one of our finer moments.  Right before that poop started, I was trying to clean Phoenix with a baby wipe since he had peed a lot.  I had him flipped over to just quickly clean his belly, and with a quick wipe, he suddenly started pooping which was accompanied with pee sent flying onto the floor and baseboard.  Fantastic.  So I took him, dropped him in the box to finish up his poop, and took my revenge by taking a picture and video of the little guy.

Of course, it didn't stop there.  As soon as the little guy was finished, he took one step in his new (significantly large) poop.  And then decided to step the other back paw into it.  I didn't want him to step out of the box and spread the poop, so for some reason, I did something that clearly wasn't well thought out.  I dropped him into the box a bit further away from the poop, but not quite far enough. The little guy lost his balance and in went one of his front paws.
So clean up was fantastic, and I'm incredibly thankful for the baby wipes.  I still don't know how he managed to get some of the poop on top of his back paw.  I also recently purchased some disinfectant wipes specifically for pets.  So those came in handy today to clean up a poop print and the pee on the floor and wall.

Asher also came stopped by to say hi to Phoenix today.  It's the closest they've been yet, though I was hovering close by in case Asher decided to take a lick.  I'm hoping to check with a vet this week on whether or not we should be worried about any risk between the two at this point.  Asher did a good job just taking a quick smell of Phoenix.  I think the shutter noise on the phone caused him to separate a bit quicker.  He's still rather curious and a bit apprehensive about the little guy.  But overall, this seems like a good sign!

I also called the vet today to see if we should come in for another appointment.  Phoenix still has a bit of blood when he passes stool.  And that's been fairly consistent for the last 2 weeks.  His poop also has become incredibly stinky (which could be a sign of something).  He's also due for his next deworming in two days.  I haven't heard back from the vet yet to understand whether or not it's worth bringing him in.  For a while we've been in the "everything is perfect except for the poop and blood" situation.  So hopefully this continues to not be a problem.

And that's it for today!  Expect the next post in 2 days!

Photos and Videos

Found him sleeping all stretched out with the first photo.  Shortly after, he curled up a bit.

Taking a peek.

Taking a peek.  Video form!

Post-meal hangout.

Post-meal leg pat.

Post-meal belly rub.

Grooming time!

He was under the cow and when I got nearby his head popped out.

Then I caught a video of it!

Aww

Sleep-time!

Growing Up - Day 17

17 days, 7.65oz, 6 feedings, 2 butt baths, 1 dose Ponazuril, 0 vet visits.  A nice count down to summarize my day.  Phoenix has been doing well.  He continues to have blood come out after going to the bathroom, poor guy.  You can tell he's in pain when it's happening.  Let's hope that some more time with the medication will help improve this.  His poop today already seemed better than before (less accidents), so that's hopefully a good sign. Approaching a Milestone I'm always excited when Phoenix hits some kind of milestone.  It's a way to make me feel more comfortable about his state.  I always worry that maybe something is wrong (especially internally), so seeing this normal progress really helps. I've referenced the kitten lady before - here's a nice page from her site about determining age (but also kind of demonstrates some milestones).  Check it out; http://www.kittenlady.org/age, but I've also included a picture from her site belo...

Upgrades - Day 20

Day 20 and Phoenix is still going strong.  He's been gaining weight like a monster (hit 250g today), and I think the poop storm is starting to slow down.  Eyes are wide open, energy levels are high, and fluffy factor is continually increasing. Upgrades Phoenix got a home upgrade today.  I had purchased a collapsible pen that arrived a few days ago.  This morning, the little guy was complaining even after eating a bunch of food.  So I decided to go ahead and upgrade from a container to this new pen. I regret not getting one size bigger.  I'll need to think about a litter box soon, and it would have fit a lot bigger if I upped the size.  We'll see what happens.  I also haven't figured out what I'll do at night.  He usually sleeps next to me, but maybe it's time to leave him in one spot and keep him out of the bedroom?  I just worry I won't be able to hear him crying if something goes wrong. All in all, I'm generally happy with this new pen...

Kitten Concerns - Days 45 and 46

Phoenix is as energetic as ever.  He runs and jumps and falls.  He eventually sleeps.  Then wakes up to go through it all again.  Overall he's doing alright, but our poop problems have returned. Kitten Concerns Phoenix has been able to poop on his own for a while now.  The poops have largely been formed, so things have been on the upside.  Unfortunately yesterday afternoon, he had a pretty loose stool.  And then shortly after, it was pretty much only liquid coming out for the poor guy. I gave him his dewormer yesterday.  There was a lot more to feed him, but I got most of it in him.  I got some of it on my pants... but the majority of it successfully went into his mouth.  He did fight it for the most part, but we got it down!  It was the next poop after that that came out as liquid. We've also recently introduced some moistened dry food for him.  So this new food could explain the change in his poop.  I'll continue to moni...
