7oz or not - Day 15

Let's go short today, I'm exhausted.  Phoenix hit 7oz today, though admittedly on this last weigh in, he dropped 3g and is under 7oz again.  Not worried, I think the scale can be finicky and overall he's gained since yesterday.  All in all, Phoenix is doing well.

Growing Kitten

Another day is down and not much has changed.  Right down to bad-Mom forgetting to turn on the power strip again.  This time I was frazzled because I was moving him while I was running late to a meeting for work, so it completely slipped my mind to check that the heat source was on.  On the bright side, since I'm paranoid, I will regularly touch the blanket to make sure that the heat source is on, which is how I realized.  Of course today, that came back to bite me.  I reached my hand onto the blanket to test the temperature and instead came back with poop on my hand.  I deserved it - if you've been reading the blog, poop is a regular occurrence.  Why I would stick my hand under a stuffed cow to test the blanket temperature?  Beats me.

But still poop and all, there are many moments of smiles with this little guy.  How can this not make you happy?  I mean... just look at that face.

And then we had another incident where one of our power outlets was loose and the heating pad ended up shutting off without me knowing.  At least I know which outlet to avoid moving forward.

I had a bit of a poop scare.  Some of it came tinged red a bit.  I'll spare you the photo.  Sent Linda the  photos instead (yes, I texted someone poop photos) and confirmed that that was fine; not a sign of blood in the stool.

We also needed to buy some more KMR, but the store seemed to be experiencing a shortage.  So we ended up with just one smaller can of powder.  We'll need to go buy more soon, but we'll be good for a number of days.

So all in all, Phoenix is doing well!  As for me?  Well, I'm exhausted, but oddly enough it wasn't Phoenix keeping me up last night.  I just had a harder time falling back asleep, which doesn't fit in well when you have to wake up 3 times in a night.  Here's to hoping I sleep just as well as Phoenix was in this video (was he dreaming of food?  You decide!)

And for the fun of it, I'll close out with another edition of "Where's Phoenix?", though I do think the first one was harder!

Growing Up - Day 17

17 days, 7.65oz, 6 feedings, 2 butt baths, 1 dose Ponazuril, 0 vet visits.  A nice count down to summarize my day.  Phoenix has been doing well.  He continues to have blood come out after going to the bathroom, poor guy.  You can tell he's in pain when it's happening.  Let's hope that some more time with the medication will help improve this.  His poop today already seemed better than before (less accidents), so that's hopefully a good sign. Approaching a Milestone I'm always excited when Phoenix hits some kind of milestone.  It's a way to make me feel more comfortable about his state.  I always worry that maybe something is wrong (especially internally), so seeing this normal progress really helps. I've referenced the kitten lady before - here's a nice page from her site about determining age (but also kind of demonstrates some milestones).  Check it out; http://www.kittenlady.org/age, but I've also included a picture from her site belo...

Upgrades - Day 20

Day 20 and Phoenix is still going strong.  He's been gaining weight like a monster (hit 250g today), and I think the poop storm is starting to slow down.  Eyes are wide open, energy levels are high, and fluffy factor is continually increasing. Upgrades Phoenix got a home upgrade today.  I had purchased a collapsible pen that arrived a few days ago.  This morning, the little guy was complaining even after eating a bunch of food.  So I decided to go ahead and upgrade from a container to this new pen. I regret not getting one size bigger.  I'll need to think about a litter box soon, and it would have fit a lot bigger if I upped the size.  We'll see what happens.  I also haven't figured out what I'll do at night.  He usually sleeps next to me, but maybe it's time to leave him in one spot and keep him out of the bedroom?  I just worry I won't be able to hear him crying if something goes wrong. All in all, I'm generally happy with this new pen...

Kitten Concerns - Days 45 and 46

Phoenix is as energetic as ever.  He runs and jumps and falls.  He eventually sleeps.  Then wakes up to go through it all again.  Overall he's doing alright, but our poop problems have returned. Kitten Concerns Phoenix has been able to poop on his own for a while now.  The poops have largely been formed, so things have been on the upside.  Unfortunately yesterday afternoon, he had a pretty loose stool.  And then shortly after, it was pretty much only liquid coming out for the poor guy. I gave him his dewormer yesterday.  There was a lot more to feed him, but I got most of it in him.  I got some of it on my pants... but the majority of it successfully went into his mouth.  He did fight it for the most part, but we got it down!  It was the next poop after that that came out as liquid. We've also recently introduced some moistened dry food for him.  So this new food could explain the change in his poop.  I'll continue to moni...
