3 weeks - Day 21

He hit 3 weeks old today!  How exciting!  Will try to keep today's blog post short, since it's been fairly uneventful today!

Benefits of Warmth

The weather has been warm again recently.  Our area hit 100F today.  Unfortunately, more fires up north have caused the air quality to become poor again.  It's not nearly as bad as it had been when we first found Phoenix, but it's bad enough that we've opted against opening the windows.  We also don't have AC here either.  The house thermostat is reading 87F now, and it's 8:30pm in the evening.

So despite Nguyen and I roasting today, we had an added benefit.  Phoenix slept extra well!  He didn't even bother sleeping on top of the heating pad today.  But the little guy was super knocked out and seemingly enjoying life.  Check out the two videos below:

Phoenix was pretty active after I moved his pen from the office to the living room area.  He was "running" around and meowing away.  He's not quite fast, but he's using his hind legs decently well now.  It's also a good thing his pen has a lid, because I wouldn't be surprised if he could make an escape overnight.

All in all, today was a pretty good day.  Phoenix's poops are starting to improve a big.  He's still a bit messy, but his poops are starting to get formed!  He's also almost gone up 10g, hitting 259g.  And there was a lot of less blood today.  All fantastic signs.  Also, as of today, we are down to only 200 cotton balls left.  Time to buy more?  Maybe - though truthfully I think I'd like to get some baby wipes to help out instead.

Curios Cat

This new pen has allowed Asher to be a bit more curious about our new house guest.  He's seen Phoenix before during feedings and he seems to be fine.  However, Asher was quite suspicious about this new pen that showed up in the bedroom yesterday.  Take a look!

Asher was starting to approach the pen.  If you make any moves or touch him, he'll panic.  In this case, Nguyen went to throw something in the hamper, which cased him to stop approaching.

Asher cam back a little later and went to check out whatever was in the pen.  After sniffing at the front for a bit, he joined me on the bed to go to sleep for the night.

Asher also came into the room while I was feeding Phoenix this afternoon.  Phoenix was out in front of me on a blanket.  Asher came to about 3-4ft away, before deciding there was nothing exciting happening and he walked away.  We still haven't let them come close to being in physical contact.  We do want to make sure we don't spread any kind of illnesses between the two!  I was taken by surprise when I saw Asher in the afternoon today.  I'm glad he hadn't come closer, otherwise I would have had to tell him to go away (which I usually try to avoid when he's clearly a bit nervous).

Photos and Videos

Sleepy-time shots!

Searching for something.  Me?  I'll never know.

Phoenix awake and stuck inside his pen.

Walking around and exploring the world.  He didn't go very far in this video, but you can see him using his hind legs and moving around before he decided that he was done exploring and wanted to sit down.

Growing Up - Day 17

17 days, 7.65oz, 6 feedings, 2 butt baths, 1 dose Ponazuril, 0 vet visits.  A nice count down to summarize my day.  Phoenix has been doing well.  He continues to have blood come out after going to the bathroom, poor guy.  You can tell he's in pain when it's happening.  Let's hope that some more time with the medication will help improve this.  His poop today already seemed better than before (less accidents), so that's hopefully a good sign. Approaching a Milestone I'm always excited when Phoenix hits some kind of milestone.  It's a way to make me feel more comfortable about his state.  I always worry that maybe something is wrong (especially internally), so seeing this normal progress really helps. I've referenced the kitten lady before - here's a nice page from her site about determining age (but also kind of demonstrates some milestones).  Check it out; http://www.kittenlady.org/age, but I've also included a picture from her site belo...

Upgrades - Day 20

Day 20 and Phoenix is still going strong.  He's been gaining weight like a monster (hit 250g today), and I think the poop storm is starting to slow down.  Eyes are wide open, energy levels are high, and fluffy factor is continually increasing. Upgrades Phoenix got a home upgrade today.  I had purchased a collapsible pen that arrived a few days ago.  This morning, the little guy was complaining even after eating a bunch of food.  So I decided to go ahead and upgrade from a container to this new pen. I regret not getting one size bigger.  I'll need to think about a litter box soon, and it would have fit a lot bigger if I upped the size.  We'll see what happens.  I also haven't figured out what I'll do at night.  He usually sleeps next to me, but maybe it's time to leave him in one spot and keep him out of the bedroom?  I just worry I won't be able to hear him crying if something goes wrong. All in all, I'm generally happy with this new pen...

Kitten Concerns - Days 45 and 46

Phoenix is as energetic as ever.  He runs and jumps and falls.  He eventually sleeps.  Then wakes up to go through it all again.  Overall he's doing alright, but our poop problems have returned. Kitten Concerns Phoenix has been able to poop on his own for a while now.  The poops have largely been formed, so things have been on the upside.  Unfortunately yesterday afternoon, he had a pretty loose stool.  And then shortly after, it was pretty much only liquid coming out for the poor guy. I gave him his dewormer yesterday.  There was a lot more to feed him, but I got most of it in him.  I got some of it on my pants... but the majority of it successfully went into his mouth.  He did fight it for the most part, but we got it down!  It was the next poop after that that came out as liquid. We've also recently introduced some moistened dry food for him.  So this new food could explain the change in his poop.  I'll continue to moni...
